Monday Mantra – I live for me

30 Apr

If you read yesterday’s post, you’ll know that I’ve resolved to flip the bird at my fears and do more of the things I want to do. Regardless of what others might think. Because we can’t control what others say or do or think anyway!

So while today’s mantra may seem selfish, it’s actually all about empowerment. Giving ourselves freedom from fear. Allowing ourselves to pursue passions that might seem a bit weird. Letting our hearts soar. Without fear of judgement.

When we live for ourselves, we open up and can in fact give more to the people we love. We radiate warmth, we create opportunities and we live with love.

In the spirit of this, here is today’s mantra:

“I choose to live for me. I think and act on my own judgements, and not the judgements of others.”

Monday Mantra (a day late!) – I find time

3 Apr

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives...

Oops. It’s Tuesday and I’m only now writing my Monday Mantra post. I’d like to blame it on the weather. Or the media. But alas, it’s all my doing (or not doing).

I’ve been frantically planning and packing for my holidays and my writing has taken a back seat. Waaaaay up the back. It’s like my life is a big bendy bus and my writing is sitting in the rebellious back row, surrounded by stuff and unable to press the button to make itself known. I’m not even sure if that analogy works. My brain is too fuzzy to think about it. Bleuurrgh.

Time. If only I had a wee bit more of it. On Sunday, daylight saving ended in Sydney and we all scored an extra hour. What did I do with that spare 60 minutes? Did I crack open my computer and tap out a few blog posts? Nahhhh, I slept.

So really, I don’t need any more time. I simply need to use the time I have more wisely.

If the days were consistently longer, I could easily fill it with sleeping or TV or procrastinating online (hello, Twitter). Or I could use it to improve my life or someone else’s.

My time is mine to use as I wish.

If I dropped just one hour of telly-watching a week, imagine the things I could achieve! I could learn something new, or write 4 blog posts for the week ahead. I could catch up with a friend or write a letter to my nan. I could tinker with my mum’s website or bring out my acrylics and paint an abstract piece. Or I could simply soak in the tub and recharge my batteries.

It really is up to me.

This week’s mantra is all about time and using it more wisely:

“I have more than enough time to live a fulfilling life. I choose to use every precious moment to do the things that make me, and others, happy.”

Monday Mantra – I am my healthiest self

19 Mar

Like many women, I’ve fought some serious body battles over the years. As I get older, I am beginning to appreciate my body as a strong instrument that carries me through life, footstep by footstep. I am learning to nourish it, to nurture it, to protect it.

Of course, I still have slip-ups. Occasionally I overindulge and have to waddle my way to bed, wondering why I had those extra mouthfuls of vegetable korma!

But on the whole, I am learning to treat my body with respect. With love.

(Plus, I will be in Thailand in 3 weeks and the thought of spending endless days on the beach is an incredible motivator!)

So this week’s Monday Mantra is about building your body to be in perfect health, so that it can lead you through a long, fulfilling and purposeful life.

Here it is:

“I am my healthiest self. I nourish my body with fresh, wholesome foods.”

Monday Mantra – Let it be

12 Mar

I’m a bit of a rusher. I’m constantly dashing from one thing to the next, anxious to achieve it all. When I meditate, I’m able to still my mind and slowwww dowwwwwn. It helps set a slower pace for my day. But every now and then, those thoughts still creep in, urging me to pursue the next ‘perfect thing’.

I’ve written this week’s Monday Mantra to help pull us back to our centre and allow ourselves to just be. I find that often the ‘ah ha!’ moment, the relief, the surprise or the surge presents itself when we’re not pushing. When we lighten up. When we let things unfold naturally.

I hope you enjoy this week’s mantra:

“Everything in my life is unfolding at the perfect pace.”

Monday mantra – I am kind

5 Mar

Words have power. They really do. I’ve come to realise in recent weeks that we become what we think about. That is, our thoughts become our reality.

My mind isn’t a separate entity – it affects my spirit, my vigour, my being. If its message is positive, I bounce around with endless energy. But when it tells me (or rather, when I tell myself) that I am sick, or worried or bored, my day drags and life is limp.

They say that your mind doesn’t know when you’re imagining something or experiencing a real event. So why not act as if you are positive, as if you are successful and as if you are living your ideal life?

I’d like you to join me in a little exercise to see just how powerful our thoughts are. Since many of us bemoan Mondays, I’m going to create a mantra at the start of each week. By saying the mantra aloud and really believing it, you can set a positive tone for the rest of your week.

I promise I won’t Google ‘positive personal affirmations’ and re-hash them to you! They will be 100% original, unique and (I hope) uplifting words to help you live a more fulfilling week. You can say them in the morning, in the evening or throughout the day when you need a little lift. I find it easier to really absorb affirmations when I’m sitting in a quiet spot or listening to meditation music. But just do whatever feels right to you.

Feel free to use my mantra, or post a comment each week with your own affirmation or positive message.

Let’s see if we can change our thoughts to change our lives!

Here is this week’s Monday Mantra:

“I am kind to myself and my self is kind.”
